Break Through, Don’t Die In The Corner

Long-term trauma often makes a person give up. Even when the trauma source leaves, the recipient of it often doesn’t kick back into gear. This is why, when we are on a path of healing, we must learn to break through anything we are feeling and do it anyway. This goes for so many different things, because these traumas often affect every aspect of our lives, be it emotional, mental, physical, spiritual or financial. They all have equal validity and equal footing in our lives. Many times, we will focus on just one and tell ourselves that this is our path to healing. Our true path to healing, however, is to take care of all of the above, doing the things that are sometimes uncomfortable, or even downright terrifying. When we experience this fear there is only one way through and that is through.

Everyone has fear. The only difference between someone who has success in that which they want and those who do not is if they did the things that they were afraid of, even though they were afraid of doing it. It can be debilitating, this fear, but if we don’t go forward with it, then we end up living the rest of our days not putting much energy forth into anything we do, including living.

How do we get to a point where we can go and do the thing we're afraid of anyway? When we have already given up and feel like it’s just not for us...that that’s something everyone else does, but not us, then using discipline can work miracles.

It’s important to take into account that all these things take time. They’re not a ‘sit in front of your computer monitor and click a few buttons and it’s done’ kind of thing. These are our deeply rooted fears .

When we create a schedule, even if it’s a very loose schedule, this is where we can learn how to push past our limitations and do those scary things anyway. Sure, there is plenty for us to get stuck on, but when we have taken the time necessary to become strong in a routine of some type, we have then learned some form of discipline. Realizing this, we can extend this discipline (which was created through our own willpower), to do other things, things that we are afraid of or things we only imagined.

It’s never too late to unlearn learned helplessness. You are the master of your own life, you just need to believe that…

                                                        …again.
